The End of Growing a Farmer

Initial thoughts:
Finally this book came to an end. My final thought on the book is that it is a horrible read mainly due to the fact that there was only a couple of turnings point within the book that really drew me in and grabbed my attention. The rest of the book was just pointless and dull in my eyes.

Why I found the book pointless:

Youtube is helping millions of people a day with almost everything from your econ homework to starting a farm. Reading Kurt journey on what he does on his farm from day to day and what road he has taken to be where he is today is simply just a waste of my time. I don't blame Kurt at all, it isn't his fault, farming is just so damn boring. I have never been into farming mainly because I am impatient and I find it boring. Maybe if something like his farm burning down to the ground and how he rebounded from that took place in his book I would be more interested.

What caught my eye:
The part which caught my eye was when Kurt would slaughter his animals. Being Jewish there are customs which involve animal sacrifice such as Kapparot. I despise this tradition and it gets me sick to my stomach. The tradition is to approach a rabbi with your family and have the rabbi kill a chicken in your family's name to wash your soul of its sins, and to place the blood of the chicken onto your forehead. I drop to the sight of blood and when I read Kurt's extremely detailed annotations on the process of him slaughtering his livestock I was immediately reminded of my past and my childhood.

Final thoughts:
I am impressed with Kurt and all the hardships he goes through with his farm. Believe me he reached his goal i now understand how much blood and sweat is needed to have food on my table. But to be honest I cant put myself through another slow book such as this one.
