Today I was sitting in my friends apartment as we all sat in silence doing homework for school, and suddenly we began to hear hispanic music in the distance. We were all curious, my friends and I, as to what was going on, so we decided to take a step outside onto the balcony to see that a WWE type wrestling ring is being erected. Later in the day the music got louder so we went back onto the balcony to see that the event has begun. Two masked men aggressively rushed to the ring as a announcer began yelling their names into the microphone in spanish. The first thing that ran through my mind was Nacho Libre.
It was a lucho libre competition. All the seats were taken and the crowd was getting riled up for the match to begin. The referee came onto the ring and the match began, the two wrestlers started to throw each other up into the air and just attack each other. Something smelled fishy I began to question if what they were doing was even legal, and I looked closely to realize that they are acting and its fake. They weren't actually hurting each other, they were trying just trying to put up a show to sell tickets to the community around them and raise some money. My friends and I got bored of the event.
Two and a half hours go buy and I notice that they aren't fighting outside anymore, but they are building a 15 foot tall cage to wrap around ring. In a blink of an eye 20 masked wrestlers in different costumes got into the ring and began to yell at each other. A whistle was blown and they all started to fight each other as if it were a sudden death brawl. This is where it got interesting it didn't seem like they were acting this time around they were physically hurting each other. It seemed as if the objective was to get out of the cage by climbing out. But trying to climb out a 15 foot tall cage with 19 other well built men trying to make sure that is the last thing happening isn't the easiest task, or the safest. A couple wrestlers got seriously injured as they fell on their way down from climbing over and out the cage onto the asphalt floor.
My final thoughts on this event was that i'm almost sure none of it was legal or safe at all, especially the cage fight, but it sure as hell was funny and its something ill never forget. And oh yeah I have some pictures for you guys.

That is hilarious! and the picture fits it perfectly. Weird what you can see in the city.
ReplyDeleteSeriously? I had never imagine that there could be such a event(?) in LA. Reading your blog made me really want to watch it in person.
ReplyDeleteThis is really funny!! Thought this was totally made up but the pictures proved me wrong.

ReplyDeleteThis was hilarious. Made my night. I saw the Nacho Libre poster and instantly thought- I must read this. Wasn't disappointed.
ReplyDeleteLike the others I totally thought you were making this story up, but I'm so glad this is a real thing. This was something I didn't know that I needed to see so thanks for the pictures. The hilarious Nacho Libre poster had me in stitches btw (Gotta love Jack Black).
ReplyDeleteThis is hilarious and brought back some good childhood memories. I used to be a huge WWE fan even though I loved watching real fighting too. Guess we can all appreciate the ridiculousness that's going on.
