Born on third base pt 2
My final thoughts on this book is that I enjoyed it most of the times, yet some of the ideals within the book are not on the same page as mine. What i really appreciated was that collins included economic facts within the book which allow me the reader to learn more not only through his mind but through facts as well. But what really caught my eye was that Collins said that the one percenters need to feel empathetic towards the 99%.
I feel as if Collins is being ignorant by saying the one percenters don't feel empathetic to the rest of the population. Collins was born into the one percent, so he never was in the position of the one percenters who were born apart of the 99%. Coming from a family who was run out of their own country and came to America, I was told by my parents the daily struggles they went to when they came here without a single penny. My dad would shower at the YMCA in between shifts to make money, and i am not trying to sound as if im bragging but my mother and father made it to the one percent. My parents would find what collins said about the one percenters not feeling empathetic just disgraceful. I truly believe that collins is only looking at this "apartheid" through his perspective and his disregarding all the people who poured their sweat and blood to be where they are.
